What is an IBAN?
IBAN (International Bank Account Number) is a 20-digit customer account number generated according to the ISO13616-1,2 standard that can be used for interbank and international transactions.
Advantages of using IBAN account numbers:
Easy to check whether the account number is correct.
Immediately identify which bank account it is.
Transaction returns due to incorrect accounts will be reduced.
Starting April 1, 2025, all commercial banks, as well as government and private financial institutions operating in Mongolia, began gradually implementing the International Bank Account Number (IBAN) in accordance with international standards. Interbank transactions are now being conducted using IBAN account numbers.
As part of this reform, beginning June 10, 2025, TDB will process interbank transactions exclusively through IBAN account numbers. Intrabank transactions, however, may still be carried out using either the old account number or the IBAN.
Therefore, we recommend that customers use only IBAN account numbers for all types of transactions—both interbank and intrabank—in compliance with the requirements set by regulatory authorities.
