ROMERO BRITTO AND HIS HAPPY ART

10 November 2021

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the partnership between Trade and Development Bank (TDB) and Visa International, the two organizations are proud to collaborate with world-renowned artist Romero Britto to introduce the Britto Visa Card. This brand-new card design features Britto’s art officially licensed for the first time. It is the first payment card in the world to bring Happy Art to life.

Romero Britto is a globally acclaimed artist who combines cubism, pop art, and graffiti styles to create bold, colorful, and vibrant artwork. Born in Brazil in 1963, Britto is officially recognized as the founder of the Happy Art movement. His works are sought after by art enthusiasts, billionaires, and Hollywood stars alike. The famous actor, producer, and Britto art collector David Caruso once remarked, "Most artists find inspiration in dark worlds and express their emotions through those creations. But Romero Britto explores the exact opposite universe."

Britto’s admirers are not just individuals; some of the world's most prestigious brands—Audi, Bentley, Walt Disney, Evian, Hublot, Puma, Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Universal Pictures, Hasbro, and Mattel—have collaborated with him. His works have graced not only these global brands but also international events such as the Olympic Games, FIFA, NFT festivals, and Brazil’s Carnival, spreading joy and energy to people worldwide through Happy Art.

The popularity of Happy Art may stem from Britto’s uplifting vision and his mission to bring joy and happiness to everyone, but there may also be a scientific basis for its appeal. Psychologists suggest that shapes, including vertical and horizontal lines, can strongly influence human subconsciousness and convey meaning. Happy Art often features triangles that evoke strength, circles that radiate friendliness and tranquility, and squares or rectangles that symbolize stability and balance. Moreover, the blending of primary and secondary colors is thought to create a sense of happiness and positivity.

In 1988, Britto moved to Miami as a young artist with a dream to create images of hope and joy. Today, that dream has come true, and he continues to bring happiness and inspiration to millions of people around the world.
